Summer School Events

In addition to the daily classes there is also a programme of events throughout the week, including workshops, concerts and ceilithe. There are also impromptu music, singing and set dancing sessions at various locations around the town.

Fáilte & Gathering Session with Drumshanbo Comhaltas.

Dé Domhnaigh (Sunday)

11.30 a.m.
Aifreann An Lae le Cór agus Ceoltóirí san Eaglais Naomh Padraig.
Followed by wreath laying ceremony at graveside of the late Joe Mooney.
Venue: St. Patrick’s Church.

Evening registration for classes and workshops.
Venue: Community Centre.

7.30 p.m.
Official Opening of the Joe Mooney Summer School by Paddy Ryan, renowned fiddle player and Shannonside / Northern Sound presenter.
Venue: Lough Allen Hotel.

9.00 p.m.
Opening Concert:  “Mórtas Ceol”  – Launch of Tommy Guihen’s solo flute CD “The Torn Jacket”.
Followed by “Gatehouse” traditional music group with John Wynn and John McEvoy.

Registration for all classes in the Community Centre.

Set dancing classes commence in the Community Centre big hall.

Unveiling of “DANÚ” sculpture. A remarkable work of art by Leitrim sculptor Jackie McKenna. Commissioned by the Joe Mooney Summer School to commemorate the arrival of the Tuatha De Danann on Sliabh an Iarainn.

Singers Evening – Rosie Stewart, Fionnoula O’Reily, Siobhan O’Donnell, Lorcán Mac Mathúna, and more.

Evening Session – Neillidh Mulligan and friends – 100th Anniversary of the death of renowned piper Johnny Gorman.
