Summer School 2021 Update
The committee of the Joe Mooney Summer School wish to inform you that due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the summer school will not take place this year.
Once again the overriding factor in our decision is the health and safety of our participants, tutors, visitors and our local community. We feel it would be very irresponsible of us to bring large gatherings of people together in the current climate. Despite the roll-out of vaccinations and the lifting of restrictions at some point in the future, we cannot guarantee the safety of all concerned.
Hopefully we will see you all in the summer of 2022 with our usual packed programme of events.
In the meantime, keep an eye on our website and Facebook page over the next few months, we have some treats in store…
Happy New Year
Wishing all our students, tutors, friends and supporters a very Happy New Year. May 2021 bring you jigs of joy and reels of prosperity. Beannachtaí na h-athbhliana oraibh go léir.
From all at the Joe Mooney Summer School.
Summer School 2020 Update
Following the relaxation of certain restrictions in coping with the Covid 19 pandemic, we have had a number of queries in relation to the Joe Mooney Summer School. However, the original decision of the committee which was made back in April, still stands. There will be no Summer School this year. Hopefully we will see you all for the 2021 Joe Mooney Summer School, which runs from July 17th to July 24th. Please keep safe and stay well.
Passing of Brendan Mc Glinchey
We wish to extend our deepest sympathy to the Mc Glinchey family on the passing of Brendan.
Brendan was a fantastic fiddle player who taught at our school for many years.
May he rest in peace
Covid 19 Update
In our wildest dreams we could never imagine such a worldwide health crisis could threaten our 32nd Summer School but this is where we find ourselves. The safety of our tutors, our pupils and visitors must be our priority and we are reviewing the situation as matters unfold. We will be guided by the advice of the relevant authorities and have decided to wait until Mid May before making a final decision about this years Summer School. We sincerely hope that we see an end to this and we can enjoy music, song and dance in Drumshanbo come July 18th.
Passing of Ben Lennon
We wish to extend our deepest sympathy to the Lennon family on the passing of Ben.
Ben was a master fiddle player who taught at our school for many years.
He leaves behind a wonderful legacy in traditional Irish music . May he rest in peace.”
